別天つ神五柱 “Five Special Heavenly Deities”

1.別天つ神五柱 “Five Special Heavenly Deities”

When heaven and earth finally began, there came forward three deities in the Plain of High Heaven. Their names were Ame-no-mi-naka-nushi-no-kami, Taka-mi-musuhi-no-kami, and Kami-musuhi-no-kami.  These three deities were single deities, and disappeared.

When the land was still immature, floating on the water like slimy oily stuff, and without any solid form like a flabby jelly fish, there sprang forward something as thrivingly as reed sprouts, from which came Umashi-ashi-kabi-hiko-ji-no-kami.  Next came Ame-tokotachi-no-kami.  These two deities were also single deities, and disappeared.

These five deities introduced above were called the Five Special Heavenly Deities.
